Cathedral, Royal Chapel and Monastery of La Cartuja route
Cathedral, Royal Chapel and Monastery of La Cartuja route
Let yourself be guided by the hand of expert guides through the main Christian monuments of Granada, we start with the Monastery of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Cartuja.
Built on the grounds of a beautiful Arab estate, few places in Granada surprise the visitor so much that as soon as they pass through the main door, they can start a journey through the various artistic styles, discovering the life and customs of this community of monks, which was inhabited until 1835 as well as delighting ourselves with the impressive treasures that keep its walls.
We continue our route crossing Calle Gran Vía de Colón, continuing along Calle Cárcel Baja, on the way to the Cathedral of Granada.
The arrival of the Catholic Monarchs to the last Arab bastion of the Iberian Peninsula represented a radical change in the model of the city. The Renaissance Cathedral of Granada is a hymn to grandeur where Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical are mixed; also showing us the new institutional, political and religious power.
Going down Calle Oficios to enter the Royal Chapel, a place chosen by the Catholic Monarchs as their last resting place, this temple stands, symbol of the restoration of the Granada church, showing the great wealth of its artistic heritage and feeding its spirit with its transcendent meaning and its beauty.
At the end of our route we will enjoy a snack accompanied by one of the famous Granada tapas.
