Itinerary
Día 1
Escorial + Toledo
- Check in at our office in the center of Madrid fifteen minutes before the departure of your tour. Hop aboard one of our air-conditioned buses alongside a local guide.
- Enjoy a guided visit to the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, an architectural complex declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built in the 15th century, it is a symbol of the power of the government at that time. Learn all the details of the Royal Mausoleum it contains and the story behind the 21 years it took to build the century. In Renaissance style, the symmetry of the building will amaze you. Listen to the explanations of your guide while you walk around the place visiting the Palace of the Habsburgs, the Sala Capitula, the Basilica and the extraordinary library.
- Hop back on the bus at the end of your visit for a short transfer to the Valley of the Fallen. The site is located 9km from El Escorial, in the Sierra de Guadarrama. You will be able to see it from afar thanks to the monumental cross built on the spot. The monument is an underground basilica built into the mountain. It is crowned by the largest cross in the world, which can be seen from miles away.
- Check in at our central Madrid office fifteen minutes before your tour departure and head to Toledo with your local guide. Follow your local guide on a walking tour of the historic city of Toledo, a World Heritage Site since 1986. Once the capital of Spain, it is a spectacular mix of Arab, Jewish and Christian cultures.
- Get to know its fantastic heritage and discover how the coexistence of cultures through the centuries influenced its current architectural style. Stroll among the courtyard cloisters and royal coats of arms at the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Admire the building sponsored by Queen Isabella of Castile to become a royal mausoleum, the most important construction built by the Catholic Monarchs.
- Right after the visit we will walk to the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca. Originally built as a synagogue, it was expropriated and converted into a church just 211 years after opening its doors. Today, it is a fantastic Mudejar-style museum that you will visit. Admire El Greco's world-famous painting, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, in the Church of Santo Tomé. Did you know that Greco himself lived in this wonderful city?
- The guided tour will end in front of the Cathedral of Toledo, considered the most important of the Gothic style in Spain. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore Toledo on your own before returning to Madrid.
