Itinerary
Día 1
MONTSERRAT IN THE MORNING
- Get on one of our buses in Barcelona to the magical mountain of Montserrat. Famous for its peculiar morphology, its name comes from the Catalan Mont (mountain) and Serrat (serrated). World famous for its rocky landscape, the mountain of Montserrat was declared a National Park in 1987 to protect its cultural and natural heritage.
- Follow your local guide and discover the history of the Monastery, as well as its architectural style. Fall in love with the fusion of Gothic and Renaissance styles in its basilica and sanctuary. Discover that the importance of the place is due to the legend that tells of the miraculous appearance of a representation of the Virgin with the baby Jesus in one of the mountain caves, the Santa Cova. Visit this wooden carving, guarded today in the Church of the monastery. The figure is popularly known as La Moreneta due to a reaction of the varnish over time, which has darkened it.
- Montserrat is closely linked to spirituality. Today a community of 80 monks inhabits the place following the rule of Saint Benedict. For this reason, in addition to the main monastery, the mountain is home to a large number of churches and hermitages, some already abandoned.
