Route of the Seven Villas de los Pedroches
PEDROCHE HISTORY
Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, it is believed to have originated in pre-Roman times. It was known by the name of Baedro in Roman times and was the capital of the Baedronens region: from this time there is a road, a bridge with a single span and a good number of sarcophagi and cists .
Its greatest power reaches it in times of Arab domination: being Bitraws the most important population of Fash al Ballut (Valle de las Bellotas) and one of the most important in the province of Córdoba. In 1492 some ordinances given by the Catholic Monarchs allow the formation of a rustic community that would have its capital in Pedroche and that, with the name of the Seven Villas of Los Pedroches, included: Pedroche, Torremilano (Two Towers), Torrecampo , Villanueva de Córdoba, Pozoblanco, Alcaracejos and Añora , meeting on September 8 of each year in the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Piedrasantas de Pedroche, until 1837. In his honor, Pedroche celebrates its major festivals where they are worth seeing " piostros " , riders who ride horses adorned with beautiful blankets that also receive this name.
The period of maximum splendor reaches Pedroche in the sixteenth century, when the most important buildings of this town are built.

TWO TOWERS
It was December 11, 1839 when General Espartero, regent of Queen Isabel II, decreed the merger into a single village (Dos Torres) of the medieval towns of Torremilano and Torrefranca, historically together, from the spatial point of view, although very different from the legal-administrative perspective.
Torrefranca was one of the villas that integrated the old Señorío de Santa Eufemia, while Torremilano was part of the Seven Villas of Los Pedroches, being therefore a town of realengo.
Torremilano was, with time, administrative head of the Seven Towns, being settled in her the first Real Corregidor of the Pedroches, D. Fco. Miguel Díaz de Mendoza.
The historic center of Dos Torres has conserved over the centuries the typology of traditional housing, which has led to its declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Historic Site. The origin of Torrecampo dates back to medieval times, at which time the residents of Pedroche settled in these lands fleeing the plague that was ravaging their town. These, together with the inhabitants of Cerro de la Torre, would make up what is now the Villa. In 1484 it reached its independence and was part of the Seven Towns of Los Pedroches, being subject to the jurisdiction and dominion of Córdoba. Its period of greatest splendor was between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries, when it began its inexorable decline because it was for a long time an obligatory passage from La Mancha, and after the collapse of the bridge over the Guadalmez this route was diverted, which Torrecampo was losing its importance. The surroundings of the town were formerly populated, proof of which are the multiple remains that have appeared throughout the area. Between the settlements they emphasize the Castle of Mogábar, that was a medieval fortress populated centuries back, and the hill of the Tower, where still they are possible to be observed rest of what was a watchtower. It is a town that during all its history, and even today, endures its dedication to agriculture and livestock, whose white and collected streets invite not to break the silence and to enter a peace that is unattainable in the feverish activity of the city.

According to scholars, there are different theories about the creation of the urban nucleus although it seems clear that the first inhabitants of Añora came from the neighboring Torremilano, legally depending on the first location of the second until that it was granted its independence. As for the founding of Añora, it must have occurred in the second half of the 14th century, coinciding with the appearance of new urban centers in the region around Pedroche and Torremilano. On May 27, 1553 the Crown granted the title of Villa to the town, becoming part of the Seven Villas de los Pedroches, county territory as a land belonging to the jurisdiction of Córdoba, until there was a distribution of the communal lands in the mid 19th century. The popular architecture of this town stands out: entire streets with granite ashlar facades highlighted by white strips.
