Get the Compostelana making the way by bicycle from León to Santiago de Compostela.
- This is a route within the "French Way", more and more pilgrims are choosing this new way of doing the road.
- It is a total of 302 km.
Starting point
City of León.
Itinerary
Día 1
Lion
- Arrival in León on behalf of the client.
- Accommodation in lion.
Día 2
León - Astorga (49km)
- Departure from León, a city rich in historical and monumental heritage, an essential starting point for all pilgrims. This first stage can be considered quite easy as it is softened as we approach the city of Astorga, head of one of the oldest and largest dioceses in Spain.
Día 3
Astorga - Ponferrada (54km)
- In this second stage the terrain becomes more difficult because there are more climbs than descents. We will cross towns like Foncebadón one of the most typical cities of the Maragata region and we will be able to get closer to the Cruz de Hierro, a cross found at the highest point of the Camino de Santiago Francés, specifically at an altitude of 1,500 m.
- After the descent from the Cruz de Hierro we will arrive without problem to Ponferrada where we will find the Castle of the Templars.
Día 4
Ponferrada - O Cebreiro (50km)
- We leave behind the beautiful city of Ponferrada and start the climb O Cebreiro. In a short time we will meet in Villafranca del Bierzo 24 km from Ponferrada. Arrived at the point of La Faba we will come across two detours, it is best to take the direction towards the lodge since the terrain is less complicated.
- We are leaving behind the province of León and arriving in Galicia. Already replenishing the last forces to enter O Cebreiro, the Pre-Romanesque Church Santa María La Real will welcome us.
Día 5
O Cebreiro - Sarria (40km)
- On our fifth day we will pedal through the slopes of the Monte Area and we will face the ascent of the Alto do Poio, after these two sections it will be all down to Triacastela. At this point the road branches into two itineraries on the left hand LU-633 road to Samos where we will pass and find the Benedictine monastery that will lead us to Sarria or if we choose to turn right on the route through San Xil 6.5km shorter but more difficult.
- Once past some of those two sections there will be little left to get to Sarria.
Día 6
Sarria - Palas de Rei (40 km)
- We could consider this stage as short, but with some difficulty. Divided by the Sierra de Ligonde we will cross the concejos of Portomariín and Monterroso. On our way through this stage we can make several stops such as The Church of Santa Maria in Portomarín. The Chapel of San Marcos and The Cruise of Lameiros in Sales of Narón or a peculiar stop in the Cemetery of Pilgrims in Ligonde. The Church of San Tirso will give us the entrance to Palas de Rei.
Día 7
Palas de Rei - Santiago (69 km)
- In the last stage we will try not to waste all our strength, since Santiago is closer than we expect. We will pass through towns such as Arzúa and O Pedrouzo. We characterize the passage through these two towns as simple and without complications.
- The road becomes more difficult when we approach the airport of Santiago, in this stretch many pilgrims throw their feet to earth before the difficulty of this section. Not forgetting also a stop at the Monte do Gozo, where many of the pilgrims see the first panoramic view of the Cathedral towers.
- There are few kilometers separating the pilgrim to enter through the doors of the Cathedral.
